DIGITAL

Using a profile portrait (either your own or high resolution from online) create a digital outline of the subject.
Use this resource for further instructions on this process if needed.
You can use Photoshop or Adobe draw like we did in the previous unit (linked here)
This technique is quite effective in black or white depending on the tone of the image. The lines are often a more organic and smooth linear form.
HAND STITCHED
Example images
Using a front facing portrait add coloured stitching to different areas in the image to add texture and interest. Geometric lines and shapes work well here.
Here’s a super-useful diagram to help you get to grips with basic embroidery stitches.
Everything from the French knot, back stitch and satin stitch can be used to enhance your photographs.
For best results use old or black and white photos and colourful threads when creating your very own embroidered photo art. Geometric shapes work best and a few floss rays coming out of your subject’s eyes wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
