Check out the 79 finalist photos for the National Portrait Prize 2021. (currently on exhibit at the Portrait Gallery if you want to check it out in person)

  • Read through the artist statements and view the photos.
  • Choose 4 photos that you believe fit the follow categories –

1. Your favourite overall
2. The most impressive – technical & skills based
3. Best concept – link of artist statement to photograph
4. One you think doesn’t belong in this collection.

For each one you need to include the following in your visual diary.
Photographers name, title, date, brief description of image (in your own words) and a copy of the image. You also need to write a sentence or two on why it fits the category above. eg. why is it your favourite?

  • What did you learn from this task? (Use “I can…” as a sentence starter)
  • What did you like about this task?
  • What was difficult? (Use “I am struggling with…” as a sentence starter)
  • How did you solve problems?
  • Is your image successful, if so, why?
  • What adjustments (edits) did you do to your image? (include before and after and camera settings if available)
  • What else could you change if you had more time or resources?
